Red Fox

Red Fox mostly seen in Ladakh and also even in other parts of the country like Europe, Asia and Northern Africa. The local name for Red Fox is "Watse". Watse is found in Ladakh and also in the Himalayas. They are seen in the Suru, Markha, Nubra, Zanskar Indus valley, Changthang and Rupshu Region.

Habitat

The Habitat of the Red Fox Ladakh is that it is not a social animal. They live in dirty wastes, riverbeds and silt dunes in semi-dry regions. The Watse is an animal which is energetic even in nights and they can be seen during sunset and dawn.They reposes in the gaps at the day time. They are very cautious and suspicious animal. The prey of the fox is birds, rodents and marmots.

Characteristics

The Red Fox is red in color and the body is covered with long and silky hair with thick beneath wool. Red Fox Ladakh is known as "watse" in Ladakhi language. The tail of the fox is white and under the eye there is a dark spot and the ears are black in color. The length of the Watse is around 50-70 cm and the weight is 5 kg.
