Padum is the capital of ancient kingdom of zanskar and the other is zangla. Padum is named after Padmasambhava it has a population of around 1500 and it is called as a overcrowded settlement of zanskar. In padum muslims community are creating nearly half of the town and it initiated in the 17th century and it has even become a renowed major trekking base and a famous tourist endpoint. Tourists are mostly attracted in the locality of the town and the people in padum are zanskaris which are almost Buddhists, but around 30% of padum's are not ladakhi's but they are indo Aryans like baltis and lahulis and they are supporters of Sunnite muslims sect. The people in padum very friendly and shy.
About Padum
Padum has a small monastery and there are numerous rock engraved Buddhist images dating from 10th century. Monument in padum has a set of prehistoric rock statue near the riverbank. There are 30 monks hangs to a tree covered ridge beyond the town. Padum is the sub-tehsil of Zangskar which is 464000 meters from Leh and 234000 meters from Kargil. The Mosque is being constructed in the city for muslims community
Padum Hotels
There are many hotels in padum zanskar so that tourists can reside and can spend their quality time and they are provided with meals. The visitors can reside in tourist complex which offers equipped rooms. Even in the complex there are cooking procedure and tourist can put their own tents for camping. It has many hotel rooms which presents simple amenities for the tourist.

The weather in padum gets fluctuated from tropical throughout the day and relatively cold in the evening. Tourists can carry woven outfits during the visit to padum.
Padum Transport
During July to September the Manali-Leh highway is officially closed. The other ways comprising the highway from Srinagar via Kargil, are open till October. Routes from Leh to Nubra valley are tremendously high and are open throughout the year.
