Korzok Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery that belongs to Drukpa Ancestry. Korzok Monastery Changthang is 153 year old monastery and it is situated in the korzok village in Leh. It is located at a high altitude of about 4,560 metres (14,960 feet) and it has Shakyamuni Buddha statues. There are almost 70 Monks in the monastery. The full name of monastery is Thupstan Sningpo Druprgout standar Chosling. The founder of Korzok Gompa was Kunga Lodro Ningpo. A permit is very important for entry in the city. The visitors can stay in the tents on the banks of the Tso Moriri. The monastery is positioned to the southeast of Leh. The visitor can visit the Korzok Monastery Changthang which is in the distance of 215 kilometres from Leh. Through Manali also visitor can reach the monastery. Korzok Gompa is also known as Langna Rinpoche. The temperature in summer is around 36 °C and minimum of 5 °C. The population of the korzok village is around 1300 people. It is a highest enduring expenditure in India. Korzok monastery was first built in the 19th century on the banks of Tsomoriri River.
Festival in Korzok Monastery
Korzok Gu-Stor festival is celebrated in the monastery and even there are many nomadic herdsmen that get attracted. This festival lasts for almost 2 days and then the service signifies the obliteration of evil. Masks are worn by the dancers to signify the guardian divinities of the Buddhist.
