Suru Valley

Just after leaving the kargil town, you enter Suru valley ladakh popular for its enchanting greenery spread across the long stretch of the valley flanked by snowcapped mountains and the sparkling Suru River. The valley ends with a pass called the penz la. The majority population of Suru valley ladakh comprises Shia Muslim of Tibetan origin which once followed Buddhism before converting to Muslims in the 15th century. One of its villages, kartse, has huge rock cut Buddhist image, which is considered one of the finest rock-carved statues of 7th century Buddhism.

Lamayuru monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist Gompa located in kargil district in Ladakh which is 15 km from Fotu La at a height of 3510m.In past, there were only 400 lamas, but now a report says that the numbers of lamas decreased and at present 150 lamas are living here. Some of other lamas stay and provide education to gompas which are staying outside the villages. Lamayuru monastery is at a distance of 127km from Leh city. Lamayuru monastery ladakh belongs to Red-Hat Sect of Buddhism .There are 150 houses of Buddhist monk in Lamayuru monastery Leh. It was founded by Mahasiddhacharya Naropa during Eleventh century. It is famous for the Largest and Oldest Gompa in Ladakh. An important and interesting story is connected with the Lamayuru monastery ladakh.

Drass War Memorial

Drass Ladakh is about 60km to the west of kargil on the rd to Srinagar. The place has beautiful pasture lands. Drass Ladakh is the second coldest inhabited place in the world where the mercury drips as low at 350°C in writers. Drass Ladakh has become famous in recent years because of Pakistan's misadventure in the Tiger Hill and Tololing areas. One can have a lovely view of Tiger Hill from Drass Village.

Sani Monastery

Sani Monastery is situated in Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir, 6km to the west of Padum. Sani monastery is also known as Turtot Gyat and it is considered to be one of the eight holy places of the Buddhist. This monastery is situated just nearby the village of Sani where the Stod Valley broadens into the central plain of Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir. It takes only two hours as it is located at distance of 6km in order to reach there. Dzongkhul Monastery belongs to the Drukpa Kargyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, and it is the only monastery and is the only one of this order in Zanskar in which nuns reside. Sani monastery is to be considered as the oldest religious site of Ladakh and Zanskar.

Kargil Dam

Baglihar Dam is one of the Kargil Dams which is also recognized as Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project, is a run-of-the-river power project on the Chenab River in the southern Doda district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Baglihar Dam was conceiving in the year of 1992 and it was approved in the year of 1996 and it was begun to construct in year of 1999. The Chutak Hydroelectric Project is on Suru River in Kargil district. The bombardment of the project is at Sarze community and the power house is situated on bank of river Suru.

Mulbek Chamba

Tiger Hill Kargil
