Chemaday Monastery
is located in the east of Leh at a diastance of 40km and it is situated on to the hills. It is said that it was founded 400 years ago and it was offered to the monks to form a monastic community under Shamo Natha. Chemaday monastery belongs to the Dukpa Kargyut Pa sect and it is currently headed by the 6th Skyangon Stagsang Rinpoche. An image of Padmaasambhava is to be seen in the Chemday Gompa Leh. It is one storey in height. There are furthermore many shrines.Thigchok Dechen Chosgon Gompa is Known as Chemday Gompa Leh that was a palace of King Singey Namgyal and after sometime he offered to the monks in order to form monastic community under Nawang Gyatso.

inhouse the exclusive gold plated image of Guru Padmasambava. At present there are 100 monka that reside in this monastery. The monastery also owns amouseum, Inaugurated and blessed by his holiness 12th Gyalwang Drukpa on 28th Feb 2009. A minimal entry fee is charged to visit the museum.This year about 3000 people gathered to participate in the festival.Chemday Gompa is well known for the Chemday festival that celebrated every year there. This celebration celebrates on every 9th month of the Tibetan calendar and on the two days of 9th month, 28th and 29th. In Chemday fest, holy & sacred dance performed with an old tradition of the Chemday Gompa and dance custom is performed on just one of these festivals days. The monks, who carry out this sanctified dance, bear a type of mask on their face. People from outside of Ladakh are also permitted to take part in this ceremonial of dance.
On opening day of the carnival, this dance & other rituals take place. But on the next day of the festival, the well-known 'Mandala Puja' is carried out in the ground of the gompa and this Puja is held to be very sacred.
