Baralacha La
The Baralacha Pass is also along the Manali-Leh Highway. This Baralacha La Pass is at the lofty height of 16,050ft (4892m). It is situated at a tri-junction of three roads, one from Manali, one from Leh and one from Spiti and Lahaul. The view from Baralacha La is spectacular with the Himalayas extending along the horizon, as far as the eye can see. The Bhaga River, a tributary of the Chandrabhaga or Chenab River, originates from Surya Taal Lake, which is situated a few kilometers from the pass towards Manali. The other major tributary of the Chandrabhaga, the Chandra also originates from glacier in this region. The Bara-Lacha La also acts as a water-divide between the Bhaga River and the Yunam River.
Baralacha La Pass is a high mountain were various altitude ranges such as Pir Panjal, Zanskar and the Great Himalayas. Baralacha La Pass comes across at an altitude that is beyond 16,000 feet. The Baralacha La is closed during winter due to heavy snowfall. The ideal time to visit Baralacha La pass is the month of April to October. The snowfall in the areas nearby Baralacha La Pass is about 12-14 meters. The Bara-lacha La is the starting point for various treks like well-known Suraj Tal trek and Chandra Tal trek. The roads of Baralacha La are open for travellers when all the snow melts. The pass also acts as a water-divide between the Bhaga River and the Yunam River. The other major tributary of the Chandarabhaga, the Chandra also originates from glacier in this region.
