Banihal Pass Ladakh is not used for transportation but there is a road that passes through the tunnel. Magnificent Pir Panjal ranges of Himalayan Mountain divide the Kashmir valley from Jammu region and other parts of the India. After separation of India, Muzaffarabada-Srinagar, the only road connects the valley of Kashmir with Jammu, was closed due to political issues. The Banihal La is available only at the time of summer season and remained closed in winters due to heavy snowfall. Banihal cart road enters the Kashmir valley through this pass. In 16th century Sheikh YaqoobSerfi had travelled through this pass to invite Hindustani Mughal Emperor Akbar to attack Kashmir.
