Alchi monastery is division of three villages which are positioned in lower Ladakh region which make up the 'Alchi group of monuments'Mangyu and Sumda Chun. The monastery is positioned at an altitude of 10,200 feet. Alchi monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. Alchi is a small village with numerous tourist homestays, which offers latest amenities for overnight stays. During the summer months of June to September, is the best time to visit the alchi monastery and well known alchi attractions.
Du-khang, is the main and the oldest preserved structure of the complex and recognized for alchi attractions. It is the major place which is utilized by monks for ceremonies.The entrance into the assembly hall is through a court with verandah. Murals of thousand Buddha adorn the cloisters while the outer gate has the Wheel of Life and Mahakal on its side. The walls of the du-khang, dedicated to panch tathgats, are painted with six different mandalas centring on Vairochana.
Inside the Alchi G is Alchi's most celebrated temple Sum-tsek is one of the most celebrating temples inside the Alchi monastery. Sum –tsek footing to the left of Du-Khang (assembly hall), and it has three storey mud structure and having three enormous figures of four armed Bodhisattvas which is famous for alchi attractions. These Bodhisattvas are located in recess in the side and far walls while the center part of the floor is occupied by a 14 1/2 feet figure of Maitreya Buddha with his upper right hand in abhaymudra. On to the left and right hand is the white Avalokiteshvara.
Lotsawa La-khang is also a Buddhist temple which is situated in Alchi village in Leh district and it is well known for tourist alchi attractions. It is said that it is one of the famous temple which is dedicated to the great translator Rinchen Zangpo. Lotsawa La-khang contains the picture of Shakyamuni, the erudite from the Sakya clan and on right, a small droopy-eared picture of Rinchen Zangpo is also able to be seen. The wall of the temple has been adorned with paintings of Shakyamuni, which are beautiful.
The temple of Manjushri is situated nearby Lotsawa La-khang, in Leh district. The shrine is also known as Jampe Lhakhang and is believed to have built in 12th century. The square shrine contains four images of Manjushri,which has famous Bodhisattva. The mural of the temple pursue the theme of the Thousand Buddhas, while goddesses and guardians dominate the wall space. Manjushri temple is recognized as the top tourist alchi attractions.
